Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum) * Very useful in massage blends for muscular aches and pains and stiffness. also an excellent aid to digestion. High concentrations may cause local irritation. |
Cajeput (Malaleuca Cajaputi) * Increases resistance to infection. blends well with other oils. Uplifting. |
Cedarwood (Juniperis Virginiana) Can be used as a n inhalation in cases of coughs and colds. Used as a fixative in natural perfumes. Soothing and harmonizing oil, particularly beneficial in treating acne, oily hair, dandruff and eczema. |
Chamomile Roman (Anthemis Nobilis) Gentle relaxing oil. It is particularly suitable for children. User as an inhalant for temper tantrums, colic, teething, earache and all disorders where there is pain and inflammation. |
Citronella (Cymbogogon Nardus) Very good for insect repellent, especially outdoors in summer. Good disinfectant for household use. |
Clary Sage (Salvia Sclarea) A powerful relaxant, uplifts the spirit. It is valuable in the treatment of all kinds of stress, tension, migraine and asthma, as it helps relieve muscle spasms. |
Cypress (Cupressus Semperviren)* Astringent. Good for oily skins, heavy perspiration and menstruation. Use in bath for piles. Use in footbaths for sweaty feet. a Marvellous remedy for deodorising unpleasant odours. Good for respiratory problems. |
Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Globulus) An amazing versatile and useful oil. It is anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. Most useful against coughs and colds. |
Frankincense (Boswella Carterii) Antiseptic and helpful in respiratory infections,. Reputed to slow and deepen the breathing. Calming. Used in meditation. said to preserve a young complexion and popular in anti-wrinkle preparations. |
Geranuim (Pelargonium Graveolen) A superb oil in many ways, having a refreshing and balancing effect on the emotions and a wonderful scent. It will make chilblains disappear overnight and brings a radiant glow when used in skincare. Effective for menopausal problems and pre-menstrual tension. Makes a refreshing and relaxing bath oil. |
Ginger ( Zingber Officinalis)* Can be added to massage oils for aches and pains. Warming. Ideal in the bath in winter. Can assist in relieving travel sickness and nausea. |
Grapefruit (Citrus Decumana) A relaxing oil - ideal on a fragrancer. Useful as a disinfectant. Good for acne, oily skin, fluid retention. Promotes hair growth. |
Jasmin ( Jasminum Grandiflora) Expensive-Relaxing and emotionally stimulating. Beautiful fragrance. Said to be aphrodisiac. A tonic for dry and sensitive skin, helping to restore elasticity. |
Juniper Berry (Juniperus Communis) Excellent in massage oil for rheumatic pain. To cleanse the mind and body. A good astringent for acne-prone skin. |
Lavender (Lavandula Officinalis) One of the most versatile of the essential oils, lavender is antibiotic, antiseptic, anti-depressant, sedative and depurative. It promotes healing, prevents scarring and stimulates the immune system. It is therefore extremely effective for burns and scalds. A most valuable oil in the treatment of acne. Use in the bedroom to induce sleep. add to a bath to relax and refresh. Helps calm a nervous headache. Blends well with other oils. |
Lemon (Citrus Limnum) * + A powerful antiseptic and anti-bacterial oil, it is invaluable in the treatment of verrucas, insect bites and headaches caused by tension and in the arresting of Minor bleeding. When blended with sweet almond oil it becomes an effective treatment for brittle and flaking nails. A ideal bath oil to stimulate the senses and invigorate the skin. |
Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Flexuosus) Sweet and lemony. Useful as a room freshener and in pot-pourri has good bactericidal qualities. Makes a good bath. A suburb midge and insect repellent. |
Lime (Citrus Aurantifolia) Very refreshing, citrus tang. Use in baths and to freshen rooms, especially after cooking, smoking etc. Add to pot-pourri. Helps stress-related conditions. |
Mandarin (Citrus Madurensis) Used as a relaxing bath fragrance to encourage peaceful sleep. Pleasant as a room freshener and in pot pourri. |
Marjoram (Thymus Masticina) A warming oil that in larger quantities has a profoundly soporific effect and for this reason should be used with great care. Use in massage for treating muscular strains, bruises, rheumatism and arthritis. Blended with lavender, it is excellent for inducing sleep in cases of insomnia. |
Melissa (Melissa Officinalis) * An extremely valuable oil, with anti-depressant and anti-spasmodic qualities. It has a soothing and calming effect on both body and mind It should always be used in low doses as if can cause irritation. |
Myrrh (Commiphora Myrrha) Healing, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. Good for chapped skid, catarrh and chesty colds |
Neroli (Citrus Aurantium) Expensive. An essential ingredient of good cologne. USE in the bath or in massage to calm. |
Niaouli (Melaleuca Quinquen) Powerful antiseptic. Dilute in water for skin cleansing and protection from infection. Has been used in hospitals in France because of its antiseptic qualities. |
Orange, Bitter (Citrus Aurantium ssp) Used as an antidepressant and for reducing anxiety before interviews, driving tests etc. Astringent. |
Palmarosa (Cymbopogon Martini) In skin treatments is hydrating and stimulating and helps regulate sebum production. |
Patchouli (Pogostemon Cablin) Musky, sensual fragrance. It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, sedative and anti-depressant and therefore of use in treating acne, athlete's foot, dandruff, certain skin allergies and can assist in clearing the mind in cases of mental stress. |
Peppermint (Mentha Arvensis) * This oil has many health-promoting properties, being anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. Of great use in treating indigestion, bad bream, flatulence, flu, catarrh, headaches, migraines, rheumatism, skin irritations and fatigue.
